10/10 again...

Good to know that there are more people besides Vulgadrop or P1ch3 that offer support for 1070.

This ENB is really nice, except for the black line on the horizon that makes me prefer the red sky bug... Have you tried the Openbeta of Dpeasant3? this maybe help you make some improvements.

THANKS for this amazing ENB and the regular updates ;)

I'm telling u people, I've had horizon strips when farclip was over 4000. So just try it in one time section and then put it back if it don't help u. No matter if enb or no enb it was there. And yes there is maybe something else affecting it, but since here is farclip 10000, get it somewhere 4k or less and check it out.
Posted on December 7, 2011 12:39PM by tall70
@ tall70 - Under normal circumstances, increasing the clipping distance will cause a black line to form on the horizon. The red skies shader fix actually causes an even thicker line, thus increasing the farclip greatly reduces the thickness of that line but will unfortunately not eliminate it entirely.

Until Boris fixes the shaders in ENBSeries for GTAIV (and he might not ever), this is the choice you have to make for and EFLC: red skies, an intermittent "white skies" shader swap with a floating square, or a black line on the horizon that gets thicker the higher up you go. I personally prefer the black line to the other two options and hardly notice it during most of my sessions.

This is very nice graphic, but im still using your 1.6.2. because my pc cant handle this one... fps go under 25. With 1.6.2. version i can play with 30+ fps and very very nice graphic!

I installed this and got some interesting visual bugs with EFLC. I can't get it to work after playing with the settings. Here is a screenshot of the opening sequence in TBOGT (the bank heist):

Any suggestions?
Posted on December 8, 2011 10:04AM by DLer
Depends on what settings you changed. Was it like that before you started tweaking it? If so, try a fresh install and use everything except for the folder common/shaders and see if that works. The problem might be with rage_postfx.fxc and the video card you're using. Try the common/shaders folder from 1.6.2 - if that one works then I know I'm missing a file that you need. Also, let me know what your video card is.
Posted on December 8, 2011 3:16PM by chinagreenelvis
@madeZ44: The high quality DOF is what's causing your FPS drops with the newer versions. Maybe I can make an option for low-quality DOF and add it to the next release.
Posted on December 8, 2011 3:19PM by chinagreenelvis
Amazing settings! They've really improved since your last release.

I have on question though, how do I disable DOF? Can I just take on of the files from your first release and swap them out?
Posted on December 8, 2011 5:38PM by ZBNYNC
Update, version 2.01 - Added option for DOF quality, moved enbeffect.fx settings to enbconfig.txt

You can disable DOF by keeping the quality at low (default) and by setting DOFBlurAmount to 0 in enbconfig.txt.
Posted on December 9, 2011 12:46AM by chinagreenelvis
I started on a fresh install, no tweaking aside from putting the "crisp" setting files in the main directory. I will revert back to the original files and use everything except common/shaders. I have a Nvidia 295 GTX.
Posted on December 9, 2011 1:52PM by DLer
Let me know if the shaders folder is what's causing the problems. To revert back to the default shaders, you can use the copy in the Original Files folder - specifically rage_postfx.fxc. Test during normal gameplay since not having that file will actually prevent the cutscenes from being able to use ENB properly.
Posted on December 9, 2011 4:01PM by chinagreenelvis
Reverted back to original files, re-copied files from EFLC folder except for the shaders, cannot get to normal gameplay, game crashes, and loading screens still show same problem as my screenshot. Went back to original files again, no problems loading.
Posted on December 9, 2011 5:05PM by DLer
Thanks for the update CGE.
Posted on December 9, 2011 5:25PM by ZBNYNC
@DLer, try again but without using any of the folders - root directory ENB files only.

Which version of EFLC do you have - retail, Steam, or DLC?

Does the mod work for you in regular GTAIV?
Posted on December 9, 2011 5:58PM by chinagreenelvis
Update, version 2.02 - Increased DOF distance to fix blurry cutscenes, tweaked brightness and contrast in a few presets

i need help on how to install.
Posted on December 12, 2011 4:34AM by conzke
Installation instructions are included in detail in readme.txt.
Posted on December 12, 2011 4:38AM by chinagreenelvis
Here again. Tried your suggestion, no luck. Same problem. Its a retail version. Also, on XP SP3 running as admin FYI. Don't have regular IV either. I'll play around and see what works. Thanks again for all the support, you're a great example of how modders should act. Thanks again!

GTA 4 and TLDC with ENB runs great, and TBoGT without ENB, too.... Can I disable some effect or something in ENB settings to improve this problem and what to do.....

I have MSI ATI radeon R4830 OC1GB 256bit DDR3 and AMD ATHLON 6400x2 3.2GHz and 6GB RAM

@DLer - Have you tried other ENB mods as well? Here is a link to the original ENBSeries 0.082b by Boris. Try the files from this, and if it causes the same problem, then likely it's just basic incompatibility, perhaps with the retail version of EFLC.;118267

Alternatively, you can start by using only the d3d9.dll and enbeffect.fx (also enbconfig.txt in mine). An enbseries.ini will auto-generate once you start the game, but if those files work then you can narrow down your problem by quitting and adding in one more file each time until the game produces the problem again, then you know which file is causing your troubles.

So I downloaded 2.02. And it worked fine. WTF. It looks fantastic!!! Thank you again for all your help! Two queries this time. What to edit for hi-res reflections on cars? And less "noise" effect? Thanks again!!!
Posted on December 14, 2011 7:18PM by DLer
The noise parameter is in effect.txt (as described in the readme file), and car reflections are in two locations, I think: one for sure is in timecyc.dat and if you use EditIV to alter that file it's under the section "global reflection."

If you follow the link in the readme file regarding instructions for editing enbseries.ini, you'll find in-depth descriptions of the reflection sections, and you can probably achieve the same ends by changing those values.

I'm going to give this a shot over my (already satisfied with) ENB simply because you sound like you know what you're talking about... :P. Wish me luck.

hey cge, love the work it looks amazing in the screenshots. Im new to modding and I would be over the moon if I could work it out.

this mod is recommended for use with the eflc steam version so I am trying to install it and doing so to the letter only to recieve the "EFLC has stopped working" error, why is this? am I missing a fundamental step that isnt explained in your instructions that I have to do before or after? according to your instructions it should be a simple copy and replace of the relevent folder and files right? thanks in advance guys :)
Posted on January 6, 2012 3:28PM by Rilenz
got it to work! 10/10 brilliant! but why does msi afterburner prevent it from working, becuase of the way it tries to eat ur system you need to at least be able to give it more juice for better results.. I dont get why its tied in to the problem since its a seperate program.. good job anyway :D
Posted on January 7, 2012 12:09PM by Rilenz
This is probably the best one out there in terms of stability and features. I was wondering if there was a way to increase the sensitivity of the motion blur or increase the quality of it?
Posted on January 7, 2012 9:47PM by Zarukei
@ Zarukei - There probably is, if you can figure out what values to change deep within enbeffect.fx. Motion blur seems finicky to me, however, and whether or not it works is almost random. Ice La Glace would probably know more about that. MB was one of the few things I didn't mess with.

Increasing the DOF quality changes the code used for motion blur, too, from what I remember. Not sure if both sections use the same code.

Very nice during the day but I find during the early evening i find it a little too bright then at night its just not bright enough... but either than this issue your ENB is working good with GTA IV

Thanks! 9/10 from me!

Keep the updates coming!

Also just to be clear Im new to modding and everythings going well so far but does this mod download have everything I need to use this ENB stuff? or is there other stuff I need along side with your MOD?
Posted on January 15, 2012 5:18PM by j0wnz
I'm quite impressed with this ENB.

Visuals might only be 8/10 but it has 1.0.7/EFLC support, works with the snow mod, is absent of most sky/texture glitches, offers presets, offers an enbeffect config file, and makes it simple to switch between different settings... it's made like most mods should be made.

Posted on January 17, 2012 8:30PM by MarkC9
@ MarkC9, thanks - glad to know all that effort hasn't gone unnoticed!

@ j0wnz - if nighttime is too bright for you, take a look at the readme.txt file, it explains how you can change daytime/nighttime brightness differences by editing enbseries.ini in a text editor.

Hi china, you see it? its so much realistic!! =)

Your version its nice, but the sky is weird and the black line :/

Posted on January 23, 2012 10:12AM by warinoujes
@ warinoujes - Not a bad-looking mod by any means, but it runs a bit slow on my system and is not exactly my flavor. Looks like there are a lot of things added that can be configured, which is good, since I'd change a lot. It also has the red sky bug, which is fixed by replacing the skies (or by making the sky "weird" as you say) and results in the ever-so-dreaded black line that really shouldn't be a problem unless you spend entire gameplay sessions staring at the ocean.

Thanks for sharing, but I'll stick with my own.
Posted on January 26, 2012 2:54PM by chinagreenelvis
if you just want to take away the red sky then download the red sky fix from here- ... because it's not included on the packages as it says

Great work man, keep it going!
Posted on February 7, 2012 2:38PM by Sablaster
@ pedrocarlosdos - Thanks for pointing that out. I've re-uploaded the file and included the for those who want that fix. Or, as you say, they can follow the direct link:

ChinaGreen, you should update your mod to include SMAA instead of FXAA. I'm doing that on my own rig and it looks wonderful.
Posted on March 1, 2012 2:25AM by MarkC9
I tried SMAA at one point but didn't notice any difference. Perhaps I had it misconfigured.
Posted on March 6, 2012 9:24PM by chinagreenelvis
Hey, guys, if you like the mod, spread the word to GTA4-Mods and try to get it featured! And please vote it up, I think the trolls knocked me down a few pegs when it was first posted...
Posted on March 6, 2012 9:36PM by chinagreenelvis
Did you change the parameters in enbseries to load it up?

It blurs the internal parts of textures far less than FXAA
Posted on March 21, 2012 8:02AM by MarkC9
chinagreenelvis, are you dead?

I miss checking that page everyday for a new version. :(
Posted on March 31, 2012 12:09AM by JerryKapowitz
Nope, not dead. I just haven't had any reason to update the mod. Apart from what MarkC9 said about SMAA, it's pretty much as good as it's ever going to get. I'm more than happy with it in the current version; what more does it need?
Posted on April 16, 2012 3:33PM by chinagreenelvis
If it indeed works:

hey chinagreenelvis ,

i was wondering what did u do to fix the overbright cutscenes with ur enb? because with every other enb its overbright , can u tell me with what file u did fix it or how? thanks
Posted on June 27, 2012 3:54PM by Cobra700
It's a matter of having the right shader file. Most ENB series downloads are bloated and have shaders that you don't need. You can just skip installing the folder common/shaders from most mods, or at the very least overwrite it with the one from my ENB. However, that folder also contains the shader used for the red skies fix, so if you don't want old-school GTA skies, don't use the files named "gta_atmoscatt_clouds.fxc" from my shaders.
Posted on July 4, 2012 4:51PM by chinagreenelvis
but the enb that i use is L3evo 8-7 GP and that one doesnt use any shader files , mm maybe its in the effect folder? I have no clu but i will try to use ur shader files :D

hey China, is there a way to remove the black bands around the horizon? I think that red sky fix will work with your mod, but black bands are still there.

Posted on July 12, 2012 10:22PM by AmazingGameMods
The other red sky fix does not appear to work. There are specific locations where the red sky will always show up, and after trying it out, the sky still turns red for me.

The black bands are caused by two things:

• Using my replacement gta_atmoscatt_clouds.fxc files

• The increased draw distance in timecyc.dat

Either one of these will cause black bands on the horizon. Using the two together keeps them at a minimum.

If you want to get rid of the black bands and try other red sky fixes (or just deal with the red skies), then you have to replace every instance of gta_atmoscatt_clouds.fxc with the original, and reset the "farclip" values in timecyc.dat - the original value is 1500. My ENB changes this to 10000.

The easiest way to do this is open up timecyc.dat in a text editor (I use Notepad++), and do a search/replace for "10000.00" and replace it with "1500.00".
Posted on July 16, 2012 1:15PM by chinagreenelvis
In order to make it easier for you, I have included in the folder

Refer to location.jpg and redsky.jpg for a place to test whether or not any red sky fix is working.

Absolutely read any and all readme.txt files in my ENB and elsewhere!

Sorry CGE, been inactive. Thanks for the details. I'll test this out today and get back to you. I'll try out that spot you mentioned as well staring out to the sea on the avenue at Hove Beach. Both are danger zones for red sky I've found.

Im using icenhancer 2.1, how can I use your red sky fix with this settings? I tried to mix icen2.1 with your shaders folder but I get a weird greenish sky...

Please CGE come back and update your ENB with the new icenhancer2.1 features please!

Best regards
Posted on August 2, 2012 10:09AM by kont1
I gave my red sky fix to Ice, and I was under the impression that he's used it in his 1070 versions of 2.0 and above.

I've only taken from his work where absolutely necessary and have no intention of furthering my own ENB's progress off of his back. So, basically, you won't see me incorporating newer "features" from his mod into this one. I've taken this ENB about as far as I'm ever going to, unfortunately. I'd rather spend my time playing the game than modding it forever! :)
Posted on August 20, 2012 11:49AM by chinagreenelvis
This is still by far and large the best ENB out there, with the least amount of headaches and a TRUE fix for the Red Sky bug. Icenhancer's ambient red sunsets drive me nuts. This is the quickest, easiest, and best replacement out there until Boris makes a fix. I even donated asking for it directly to his Paypal with no luck. Don't get your hopes up, and download this if you have EFLC.

Updated to version 2.03:

• New default settings and visual presets

• HQ DOF is now default

• File cleanup (shaderinput folder and shader.fx weren't being used)

I toyed around with adding SMAA, but I didn't see much of an improvement when using it, and scrapping the FXAA code would have disabled some of the other visual effects. In the end, I decided it was too much effort for not enough gain. The default settings, however, are now a bit sharper and more clear, and should bring the ENB at least somewhat closer to the competition. The old default settings are still available under the "soft" visual preset.

Also, thanks, DLer. That means a lot.
Posted on August 25, 2012 2:52AM by chinagreenelvis
I've found a fix for the black stripe on the horizon. The problem appears to be the farclip value has been set to high in timecyc.dat causing an overflow (and massive clipping).

to fix:

Open the ENB timecyc.dat file in wordpad and replace all occurrences of 10000.00 with 3200.

Save and restart the game.

This has worked for me using the latest ENB and 1.0.4 patch of the game.

Posted on August 26, 2012 4:57PM by FiremanSam
You're using the wrong files for your game version. The timecyc.dat for version 1040 has the default FarClip value of 1500. This value is increased to 10000 in the timecyc files for 1070 and EFLC to increase the perceived height of the horizon in order to compensate for the fact that the gta_atmoscatt_clouds shader creates a thick black band similar to what you see if you increase the clipping distance too much when using the normal shaders.

TL;DR: If you're playing on patch 1040, use the ENB files in the folder called "1040."
Posted on August 27, 2012 1:11AM by chinagreenelvis
Whoops! I stand corrected. Apparently I increased the FarClip value to 10000 in the 1040 timecyc file by mistake. I'll fix that and put up a new version.
Posted on August 27, 2012 1:15AM by chinagreenelvis
Updated to version 2.05, removed the black band on the horizon for version 1040. (Thanks, FiremanSam.)
