Clean IV v1.21

by cp1dell
Please explain why you're reporting this file:

v1.21 Changes:
-Default filter has been improved.
-Fixed "colorful fog" for Foggy weather.

v1.2 Changes:
-Improved Desaturation (0.85 to 1.00; it was the better option.)

v1.1 Changes:
-Custom timecyclemodifiers.dat files. Removed gray-green filter and improved saturation. Interiors' colors look like how they should.

I made this timecyc because in my opinion, the weather and colors of GTA IV were fine. I know you might argue their not that realistic, but it's how Rockstar inteded them to look. The problem is they included a "Color Correction" in the game that added a disgusting looking filter over the game. It's more apparant in The Lost and Damned, and you may know it as the "Piss Filter."

A lot of timecyc mods edit the weather colors and everything while fixing the filter and saturation - but my goal here was to keep the look IV was supposed to have, minus the gimmicky filter and lack of colors.

IV has some green-gray filter over it, TLAD has a yellow filter over it, and I think The Ballad of Gay Tony removed it, but puts emphasis on pinks and purples.

Regardless, this timecyc removes that filter. I used IV's timecyc as the base edit since it's colors are more equalized. The problem was the filter, and the lack of saturation (no colors, almost black, white, and shades of gray).

So, I removed that filter, and I increased Desatuartion to about 0.85. By default, it's around 0.60, where on the darker weathers like Cloudy or Foggy it was around 0.30 - which made IV look like an old black-and-white noire film. But for all weathers it is around 0.85, where yellows are actually yellow - but things are NOT over-saturated.

Tl;dr: Default weather colors, no gray-green filter, and saturation is fixed.

Since v1.1 I have made my own timecyclemodifiers.dat files. Just like with the timecyc, I have fixed the saturation and removed the ugly filter. Interiors have the lighting and colors Rockstar intended, along with the fixed colors and removed filter

Since v1.21 I have edited the timecyc.dat so it enables the filter (Color Correction). I have improved it so the filter that covers the screen is not as dark and apparent as it is in default IV. Color Correction (the filter) is meant to put emphasis on the temperature. Like warm-orange sunsets, or cold-blue rainy weather. Since I improved it, it only applies a slight tint to the game, put still a bit noticable to add to the atmosphere of the weather. Replaces: timecyc.dat, timecyclemodifiers.dat, timecyclemodifiers2.dat, timecyclemodifiers3.dat, and timecyclemodifiers4.dat

It's actually because I took the screenshots with Steam - which saves as .jpg.

If you're talking about the draw distance, I have it set the the console values (View: 21 Detail: 10) because everything else is set to max. But now that I think of it, I should increase them for the sole purpose of helping showing off this timecyc.

I'll upload some better screenshots in a few minutes.

There, better screenshots. Happy now?

I think he means a better computer so you can use ENB...

I don't know what you're talking about. My game looks like any other GTA IV copy on max settings. Maybe it's because I'm doing aerial views so you're not seeing the full effects.

Well too bad. That's completely unrelated and has nothing to do with my mod. I'm not uploading this to show off that I can or can't run ENB.

Looks really nice especially on first image to me.

@cp1dell I believe DKT70 only deleted zones in modifiers to have timycycle settings working everywhere same. Under bridges, indoors, safe houses, manhattan, all those have normally special treatment by modifiers. If you just do it your self, it goes quick and it will be your work, no permissions needed.

I'll take a look at them. A select few are different from the rest, which I find odd. Some values are left at zero, while others are -1. I'll need to see if I can find something explaining the modifiers.

Alright! I made my own timecyclemodifiers! Updating the mod now!

The work you've done with this mod is very nice. You should add a video though, maybe a comparison to the stock IV timecyc. Anyways this deserves a 10/10, great job.

Yeah, I'll do a video comparison tonight.

GENIUS...10/10 Now I luv my GTA4 game all over again. Those of you who are looking for a simple visual improvement with 0% impact on RAM this is it...forget about all that ENB crap...eats up so much RAM game's not enjoyable. With CleanIV I can now set my draw/detail distance to 50 from 30, and throw in another +20 on density. OH YAH!

Haha, I think you might be under some placebo or something. This only removes the gray filter, and lack of saturation that IV had. But good for you man!

Also, video is up! There may not be a huge difference between the night scenes, but that's because some nighttime weathers in default IV had a bit more saturation than during the day, and a less noticeable filter.

MA Dawg cp1dell....I don't think we're on the same page here, nor do we share the same enthusiasm and appreciation for your own work. You basically just ripped the beer bottle out of my * hand, and that's a no no. This mod's actually a huge difference from the original, just check the first image on the vid's like black n white. You the one sniff'n them magic markers, u feel me? you were.

i see the tiny bit of difference whats the point of installing this when i could just get a hd texture to brighten things up, in the videos n stuff it just seems like ur changing the weather and time to give it more affect but hasnt worked at all. i removed this as soon as i downloaded it theres no difference at all NOT RECOMMENDED DO NOT DOWNLOAD.

"when I coul just get a hd texture to brighten things up"

You have no idea what you're talking about. If you're downloading textures and they look just how they look in a texture editor, they are probably over-saturated.

Like I explained, there are two settings that make GTA IV and TLaD really gray, and dull the colors. TBoGT fixed this a little, but Rockstar edited the other weather settings and everything to put more emphasis on pinks and purples.

This removes those two settings, almost like how TBoGT did.

10/10 Thanks for this. After spending countless hours trying various ENB's like Icenhancer, I found that many areas of the game were too dark to be playable.

Installing this simple mod made a tonne of difference in the colors. Why would R* include such an ugly grey filter? This mod is how the game should have been released for PC.
Posted on August 3, 2013 4:57PM by Blas
It sets the tone for the game and story. It's why TLAD and TBoGT have different timecyc and effects.

*, I didn't even use my own mod (this) while replaying through IV in preparation for V. I waited until I was done with the story to use this mod while I screwed around and had fun in the city.

@cp1dell I have a question, StelL said above that install this can makes your PC able to set an higher View distance and detail? Is that true ?

If that true , me will rate 10! :3

The best timecyc mod I've used, should've came with the game. 10/10

Looks the same in my opinion

Can you reupload the version that just disables the color correction all together instead of "improving" it? Also, can you make a TLAD compatible version? (I don't want to lose the ability to turn the noise effect off.) Better yet would be if you let me know how to do it myself.
Posted on July 25, 2014 1:41PM by grasscid
Typo there, Meant to say I don't want to lose the ability to turn the noise effect on.

Nice, its way better than default GTA IV. Thanks!
