RealityIV 1.61 Timecycle Mod

by DKT70
Please explain why you're reporting this file:

RealityIV is a timecycle mod for GTAIV/EFLC.
No ENB is required, only a full GTAIV installation and any patch from 3 - 7/EFLC patches.
The main goal of this mod is to look as close to ENB as the RAGE engine will allow, I really am pushing this engine to it's limits using every trick I can. Obviously, this will never replace ENB, lack of real clouds, proper sky lighting, and high quality reflections, make it hard as a modder to match ENB's much better shaders.
Included in this mod are edited shaders by me, including patched shaders for DoF or no DoF, dpending on preference, and 2 timecyc files for DoF/No DoF.
All files required are included in the archive.
Lastly, any feedback most welcome.

thanks man, finally you official released it to public. i have tried all your works, really nice and realistic. again thanks for your excellent works.! keep going!
Posted on January 9, 2011 2:00AM by johnnywcw
Cheers, I thought this release was my best so far, so decided to put it up on a proper site.

BTW, if anyone wants to test some scruffy roads and pavements try this

It's only the gtxd file to test, so only roads & pavements in and around the main city, Alderney, and Broker.

Err does this work on
Posted on January 9, 2011 5:27AM by Toni_Ryan
another fine works, look for that long time ago. i saw your youtube, you done excellent works, so now my GTA4 graphics also look more realistic with your road textures.
Posted on January 9, 2011 5:45AM by johnnywcw
Hello DKT70,

On the video on Youtube, you use only your mod timecyc and roads and sidewalks or other mods you use?
Posted on January 9, 2011 7:17AM by Apo31

This does work on it says it in the description.
Posted on January 9, 2011 7:40AM by ZBNYNC
is it better than Sapphire?
Posted on January 9, 2011 7:46AM by stonee206
Great job man!

I'm not positive but I think it is.
Posted on January 9, 2011 8:39AM by ZBNYNC
can i use with ENB ? and if yes what setting are best for this awesome mod :)
Posted on January 9, 2011 8:40AM by RidderProGame
Yes it works on ALL patches, and EFLC.

The roads are linked above, and are also in both youtube video descriptions.

Is it better than Sapphire ? I'll let you decide ;-)

Nicely done, this is very good
Posted on January 9, 2011 10:06AM by Jake2103
I wouldn't use this on ENB, it's not meant for ENB, and does a few tricks that ENB cannot do, especially in the sky. You are more than welcome to try, but you will have to limit either ENB or the timecyc's bright weather.
Posted on January 9, 2011 11:15AM by DKT70
What do I need to download everything I had exactly the same graphics as the video? for me it is quite dark

can you post links or others ?

If something is what it will improve...

Très moche...
Posted on January 9, 2011 1:14PM by force92i
RidderProGame, Everything required is in the archive, nothing else is needed. You also need GTAIV patched from Patch 3 - Patch 7, or EFLC. Use the included shaders if you want DoF, or patched for no DoF and no blur. Also, make sure in the "Display" menu, the 3 bars are all set to the default middle setting.

Nice DK! Official Release is good. You're mods are awesome. The road textures are epic.

Thank you!
Posted on January 9, 2011 5:24PM by 2TimesACharm
ya, tested the road texture, very nice. I'm using patch every thing fine and realistic.
Posted on January 9, 2011 9:51PM by johnnywcw
I've been using this with ENB for a while now. I think it looks pretty phenominal. It's the only graphic mod that actually looks extremely-realistic "while I am playing." The other mods I can't get to work properly.

I made some wallpaper a while back "PacketOverload's Wallpaper for People...." using your mods DKT70.

God I love GTA IV using RealityIV! XD

Posted on January 9, 2011 11:35PM by 2TimesACharm
"The other mods" meaning other great mods from other graphics mod makers...thought I'd clarify that.
Posted on January 9, 2011 11:38PM by 2TimesACharm
Thanks for testing the roads, they're only tests though, just seeing how rough a road and pavement can look inside the game.

Cheers for the comments, 2timesacharm, although I wouldn't use this in ENB unless you do some serious ENB ini tweaking. Thing is with ENB, you will lose all the nice skies from this release, since ENB doesn't support some sky tricks I use to get coloured bottom skies.

Thank you for making my gaming experience %220 better!
Posted on January 10, 2011 2:12PM by 2TimesACharm
RidderProGame, Extra Sunny has some darker shadows than normal, it's to stop road and pavement white-outs, although patch 7 is slightly darker due to the change in the shadow system.

If you want brighter shadows on buildings then you need to open the timecyc.dat in a text editor (make sure READ-ONLY is off) and search for the string "1.300 1.000 0.100" in the Extra Sunny //Midday line, change the value 1.000 to 0.800, save and test. If you like that then the shadow value is always the 5th value from the end of every line, normally 1.000, sometimes 0.900. Change them all to 0.800.
Posted on January 10, 2011 2:22PM by DKT70
I tried to edit it but no difference between that was not always the same.

Next i wait for new version if you make ;)

amazing mod dude!
Posted on January 10, 2011 3:25PM by nvidia31337
Ridder Progame,

Try this file,

That is brighter on the buildings for Extra Sunny, I tested this myself on Patch 7. If you want it any lighter then you'll have to lighten it yourself, since this isn't the direction I'm going with this mod.

please try upload again for me. i realy cant download your file.
Posted on January 11, 2011 1:25PM by RidderProGame
or have u timecyc from your old video ?

Posted on January 11, 2011 2:09PM by RidderProGame
Those old settings are impossible to do on newer ENB due to changes made by Boris, although they maybe adapted with some work. As for reuploading, I don't see the point, I can download it at any time on any browser, and there are 10 downloads on that file so it is working.

Look, just do the modification yourself. The shadow darkness setting is always the 5th setting from the end of every line in the timecyc, so try lowering to to something low like 0.400 or 0.300, higher if it's too bright. Don't tell me this doesn't work because it does, it controls how dark or bright shadows are.
Posted on January 11, 2011 2:23PM by DKT70
Maybe it just by yourself but I can not set I will not be intensely

so here is screen if i want download another file from mediafire:

Has anyone else noticed a bug with lights (ex. stop lights, tail lights, head lights) where you can see the light from the head lights to the side and the light from the stop lights when they're facing away from you?
Posted on January 11, 2011 6:57PM by ZBNYNC
Hey DKT, is the "farclip" value the 24th value or the 25th value? I've never seen GTA IV look as good as it does now but my performance is terrible (older computer DDR2800 2.4Ghz Quad) so I wanted to adjust the farclip for performance and I was wondering if you could point out the value when you have time.

I adjusted the 25th values ( ) from between 800-1200 and the performance seems much better. The FPS dip is much lower. Im actually not sure exactly what value that is though :)

I need a new comp lol
Posted on January 11, 2011 8:13PM by 2TimesACharm
For the record, my computer's performance has always been behind par ;) ...not because of the mod
Posted on January 11, 2011 8:38PM by 2TimesACharm

That's glow you're referring to isn't it? I thought it was a feature, not a bug.
Posted on January 11, 2011 8:46PM by 2TimesACharm
Farclip is the 24th value from the start of every line. You'll gain better performance from the in-game graphic menu, just press escape when looking down a long road, then adjust the distant values with FRAPS running, gradually lower them until you get a nice balance. Also, keep all settings to High or Medium, not Maximum.

There is no bug with lights, I just don't like GTAIV's lights so I keep them as low as possible. If you want higher more powerful lights then visualsettings.dat in the common/data folder will help, look for headlights, taillights, and traffic lights, adjust to suit preference.
Posted on January 12, 2011 7:19AM by DKT70
Hey thanks a bunch DKT I appreciate it. Together with the new cars and your graphics mods, it's almost like a whole new game.
Posted on January 12, 2011 3:49PM by 2TimesACharm
Congratulations, I only could recommend your RealityIV mod. Thank you for your hard and excellent work! I’m using RealityIV several months now and I liked it from the very beginning for its realistic looks and good game performance (so Enb had to go).

Only one thing: At some times and weathers police sirens did not showing properly. You addressed this in v1.61 and fixed it for some times and weathers but not all. I would like to experiment on this personally. Which values have to be adjusted for that?

Overall your v1.61 is great. I couldn’t enumerate and praise enough the astonishing and impressing effects you’re realizing. You are on a very good way. For my personal taste and in terms of realism I would reduce the specular sun effects a little bit further (although the effects look great). The second thing: Using your v1.41 as reference, it seems that v1.61 lost contrast (not brightness) in some way. Changing Contrast in the ingame Display-Settings isn’t possible any more (or at least has no effect?). Is there a way to get it back?

Posted on January 14, 2011 11:39AM by hztrlotze
hztrlotze, if you could post what weathers and exact times still have the police sirens problems and I'll look into it (I don't really play the game anymore, just mod it, so there will be things I miss).

The sun specular effects are difficult to do subtly, it's almost a on or off effect, I can tone them down again but we are then almost near the off effect.

The change of contrast from 1.41 was done because of problems with the newer patches 6 & 7 and EFLC, the trick I used in 1.41 was only really possible in patches 3 - 5, in 6 & 7 it caused me too many headaches and complaints from a few. In 1.61, I have been able to stike a balance that works the same across all patches.

Anyway, thanks for the comments.
Posted on January 14, 2011 1:41PM by DKT70

I don't think it's glow, you can see the light from the stop light through the other side when normally you wouldn't. Does that make any sense?

Posted on January 15, 2011 7:47PM by ZBNYNC
I didn´t want to replace my visualsettings(from another mod),so first,I try just replacing the files from shader/folder and those timecyc and timecyclemodifiers from pc/data.Lol,I played GTA for 6 hours straight,my eyes are satisfied!Better texture now!Thank you very much and I´m sorry for not use everthing!Keep the good work!
Posted on January 16, 2011 3:49AM by ullan
i actually mixed 1.61, but Shader and visualsettings i use 1.41. 1.61 timecyc i increase the reflaction, cause i like too see those cars in the look spakling new. of course with DKT70 road texture. now love the graphic. thanks
Posted on January 16, 2011 5:01AM by johnnywcw
DKT70, I tested through times and weathers. Police Sirens are completely off in:

Sunny, exact and only at 6h

Extra Sunny, 8h to 20h

Sunny Windy, 5h to 11h and 13h to 18h

Cloudy, 1h to 5h and 9h to 10h and 15h to 20h

Drizzle, 6h to 19h

Other times and weathers are working well (only I noticed that the effect is very intense compared to other times in Foggy from 23h to 1h (same for Raining)).

Meanwhile I noticed another thing with v1.61: You got extreme light changes when driving under a bridge (in weathers Sunny, Extra Sunny, ES2, Sunny-Windy). Try driving from Autoeroticar in Alderney towards the bridge, you’ll see the sunlight turning away immediately (beside the bridge off course).

Btw, I always used v1.41 with patch 7 and EFLC without problems. V1.50 and v1.51 didn’t work so well for me. With 1.61 you introduced some brilliant effects and gained real progress, the lag of contrast is one of the few cons. So I’m patiently waiting for your next release. Meanwhile, could you tell me how to adjust the old 1.41-timecyc.dat (or timecyclemodifiers) for working police sirens (for instance with the IV Needle timecyc editor). I really would like to give it a try.

Thanks again for your great work!

Posted on January 16, 2011 6:30PM by hztrlotze
hztrlotze, I will test those times later, if they're broke then I will upload a fix.

The light changing under a bridge, and in a few other areas is because of the timecyclemodifiers, use the ones I provided to minimise this, but it isn't yet fixable, even worse with ENB. It's because Rockstar have designated many areas on the map to have custom settings, so when you drive into a area the timecyc is ignored. I'm still trying ways to fix this. Careful with the big tunnel as well, I haven't fixed that either.

As for 1.41, you cannot do that in 1.61, both are completely different, and 1.41 settings would completely change the look of 1.61 because you have to mod around those specific settings.

To anyone interested, I have uploaded a small test gtxd for roads, here.

These are my best roads yet, better scaled, tile better, and look a lot like proper roads. Because this is only a test file, the roads are only in and around the main city/park, Broker, and Alderney.

As usual, they go in here,

DKT70, is that possible to increase the brightness inside Bowling center? look quite dark. thanks
Posted on January 20, 2011 3:39AM by johnnywcw
Yes, but it's not easy. It's a custom setting not related to the timecyc.dat. It's in the file timecyclemodifiers.dat, scrol down to bowl, and then along to the DirectionalLight(RGBAM) column and try changing the -1 value to 10. I haven't even begun work on indoors yet, only experiments with the museum, so I will try some tests in the next release.
Posted on January 20, 2011 8:29AM by DKT70
DKT70, i tried to change "DirectionalLight(RGBAM) -1.0 to 10 have no effect the light, in the end i figure out the #16 Exposure and #17 Exposure make the light brighter a bit to 3.3 both, but still look dark.. anyway will trying again. hope next version have more surprises from you.
Posted on January 20, 2011 9:29PM by johnnywcw
johnnywcw, I will have a play with some settings over the weekend and see what I can do.
Posted on January 21, 2011 8:33AM by DKT70
thanks for that.
Posted on January 21, 2011 11:52PM by johnnywcw
DKT70: My rig is not that good for quality ENB settings. So I do not use it that much, would love to but it doesn't offer me nice graphics at all.

But your Reality IV made it so * nice and close to reality that I would thank you in any language world offers. No FPS drops whatsoever, no lag. But I speak only two languages, so Thank You and Děkuji ti velice (it's Czech, haha).

Good job. I can't really offer some feedback, I like it and I am not that experienced in those things so I can't say what you should do better. Thanks again.
Posted on January 25, 2011 1:47PM by 19phelps92
Thanks for the comments, 19phelps92.

Look out for a bug-fixed release soon, with some indoor fixes.
Posted on January 25, 2011 3:39PM by DKT70
Wow DKT!

My 680i just died so ->reinstall everything and I gotta say, I had RealityIV mixed with ENB and thought it was awesome but with a fresh install and only RealityIV, I am utterly shocked in awe! Two hundred times better than the awesome I had!

Darks are nice, reflections are amazing, glass is crystal clear, brightness is awesome.

Cheers buddy - good stuff.
Posted on January 27, 2011 4:01AM by 2TimesACharm
Yes, this doesn't work properly with ENB because of all the extra light, ENB adds it's own light so everything looks too bright, and the skies don't work in ENB since ENB doesn't support the effects.

I'm doing a proper ENB version now, but still need to fix some things in this mod.
Posted on January 27, 2011 11:20AM by DKT70
Great to hear!
Posted on January 27, 2011 11:16PM by 2TimesACharm
Incase anyone's interested, here is a early RealityIV ENB test, starting completely from scratch, and using a new color filter shader.
Posted on January 28, 2011 7:17PM by DKT70
I think it looks great, but, in a "once-and-a-while" way meaning in it's own right it looks fantastic but compared to the well balanced lighting of RealityIV 1.51 or 1.61, it just doesn't measure up. I admit, I'm whacko for red colors, so I do like it.

The lighting is great - not too dark under the bridge, not overly bright in the open. Question: sunny, blue skies? I never got these very often with ENB alone - will this change with your work?

I know you're still working on it - and I know it may/will change quite a bit. :)
Posted on January 29, 2011 1:14AM by 2TimesACharm
You can fight the red with the timecyc by being brutal with the settings, no pastel-like colors. For instance, more brutal, less subtle with the Blues and Greens to fight the reds. I could just lower the red, but there are some instances this looks quite good.

For blue skies, with the right settings, this can look better because the blue looks less cartoon-like, more realistic. Also remember, I'm trying to get that old late 60's - 70's look, which often had that red-ish tint to them.

This won't affect my work, this is merely a branch I'm taking to a different realism, more movie-like, and I'm still a good few weeks off.
Posted on January 29, 2011 4:44AM by DKT70
It's lookin sick as always so far!!! ;)
Posted on January 29, 2011 8:13AM by 2TimesACharm
DKT70, i saw your works in GTAForums, look excellent, the sunset are very nice and also the car reflection, i just wondering if possible to share?
Posted on February 3, 2011 8:18PM by johnnywcw
When it's finished I will put everything up here as a RealityIV ENB mod, including the reflections test, which I'm still testing btw. The sunsets may change though since Boris is still making changes to the sky code, they won't change much, just enough to make them more subtle.
Posted on February 4, 2011 1:20PM by DKT70
thanks and looking forward to see that.
Posted on February 4, 2011 7:31PM by johnnywcw
You were right about the "Superior shader usage in ENB" DKT. I really like the extreme shine.

Can't wait for the ENB version! Looking forward to it. Cheers! :)
Posted on February 4, 2011 10:21PM by 2TimesACharm
That shine isn't ENB exclusive, it's done via Rockstar's own shaders, so this works in regular GTAIV, and it's already in RealityIV 1.61 - just a lot more subtle.

If I get time this weekend, I will go back over this mod looking for things to fix and finish.
Posted on February 5, 2011 9:10AM by DKT70
DKT70, m... just wanna ask any update from you?
Posted on February 22, 2011 12:15PM by johnnywcw
Too busy with ENB at the moment, but I'm working on brightening up the dark areas, fixing indoor areas, slightly better sunny look. Will try to get something up by the weekend.
Posted on February 23, 2011 6:06AM by DKT70
thanks for the respond and sorry for the disturbing.
Posted on February 23, 2011 6:33AM by johnnywcw
Just a note to all, there is a mod doing the rounds on Youtube,, and the main files on a torrent site, it's called "Desings Accelerator 10", this is stolen from me, this is nothing more than RealityIV 1.60 + other modders mods + some DX11 *. The sack of * author even tries to claim I stole RealityIV from him, the complete * lying sack of *.

The sheer plagiarism and theft going on in the GTAIV community is sickening.
Posted on February 23, 2011 9:01PM by DKT70
Thanks alot for your works DKT!

Please don't let these idiots stop you from developing your work further. You know, that's the internet :|

If it weren't for torrents, video, music and other media the internet wouldn't be it's astute, diverse un-tamed beast it is today?

Okay that's some serious * *, but, RealityIV is a breath of fresh air in this GTA IV community.
Posted on February 24, 2011 3:15PM by 2TimesACharm
Thanks for the support and comments, 2TimesACharm. It just annoys me that people out there can just steal other modder's work, and even claim they own it, thats just taking the piss.

Anyway, 1.62 is coming along nicely, indoors is much better, and dark shadows are much brighter.

BUT, there is, hopefully, going to be a major change to this mod that will put it head and shoulders above anything out there, and it's already looking amazing. Screenshots cannot show the effect, so a video will have to be put together to show it running, it's a cool effect if done right.
Posted on February 24, 2011 5:15PM by DKT70
That's really great to hear! I'm patiently waiting! By the way, speaking of the "internet," because of names being taken and signup not working, my names are:

2TimesACharm :) PacketOverload, PacketOverload_x64bit, ArmAVidz on forums and Youtube

Cheers DKT, I posted some screens of R4 1.61 in the ENB thread - hope I didn't get any assumptions TOO wrong.
Posted on February 24, 2011 5:55PM by 2TimesACharm
i saw that * too, just ignore that insect.
Posted on February 24, 2011 9:32PM by johnnywcw
1.6.2 Test run showing what I have been working on for the last month.

Adaptation, all stock gtaiv with no ENB.

Indoor areas now working better, less dark areas in shadow, better colour using colour correction

This version is now doing some funky stuff with colour and light, so (hopefully) this version will knock your socks off 'visually', and will establish this mod as THE best non-ENB mod out there.

Release should hopefully be by Friday or Saturday, and will be on here and Youtube.
Posted on March 1, 2011 5:58AM by DKT70
The mod your showing in the video is jaw dropping! A masterpiece of visual candy DK!

Is it still non-ENB? I thought you were working on an ENB version? :)

It looks amazing. My fiance is going to you hate you and me both when you release it LMAO
Posted on March 1, 2011 3:15PM by 2TimesACharm
It's not ENB, just stock mod.

The ENB version is on hold for a short time while I wrap up bugs in this mod - bugs co-exist in both this and ENB so fixing one should help the other - indoors springs to mind. Plus the ENB mod is a bit too ambitious and complex, causing me many headaches, and head scratching.
