Please explain why you're reporting this file:

My final timecyc gfx mod for GTAIV.
This is RealityIV 2.0, a timecycle mod ONLY.
No ENB, No sweetfx, no gfx shaders.
This mod has been tested across all patches, and should work on EFLC as well.

A complete, from the ground up, timecycle mod for GTAIV.

If anyone wants to try the road textures, here is the gtxd.

Just remember that it's only the gtxd, not the complete road sets.

A newer Liberty City Textures will be online soon with custom roads for specific areas, not the same roads everywhere.

Thanks for all the support, chaps.

The main textures are still a while off, but I might start uploading them 1 at a time since the first 3 main manhat img's are finished, and I now have hi-speed fibre internet with fast upload.

The main difference to the last Liberty City Textures are that all the main textures are now 768x768. This helps a lot in texture pop-in, and texture loss - textures disappearing after a few hours in-game. And there isn't a lot of quality loss from 1024x1024.

The roads have all had some tweaks, as have the pavements, all textures taken from real New York hires photos.

ELAKPUCKO3, as long as you either remove ENB completely (This mod does NOT use ENB) or you make a copy/re-install a fresh copy and use that copy for this mod. There is not reason why this mod shouldn't look the same as the pics and videos because it's simply a timecycle mod only, nothing else is required.

And, I tested this mod on Patch 7 for weeks and apart from a strange cloud bug in Extra Sunny, it looks identical.

for EFLC users you need to copy the timecyc in TBOGT/pc/data/ and TLAD/pc/data/ folders to make it work (and the visualsettings to TBOGT/common/data/)

mathleopoldo, thanks for that, I will add that to the readme in the next release. I cannot test EFLC myself because I only have the Steam version which conflicts with my retail GTAIV.

Sure. There are some shaders in the shader folder which have been patched to have DoF AND motion blur, but none of that full-scene blur that is seen in the stock game with definition set to OFF.

Simply go into the shader folder, then the patch you are using folder, then look for the file "shaders-patched-DOF.7z".

Now delete the shader folder you are currently using in your GTAIV directory under common, and unzip the "shaders-patched-DOF.7z" file into the common folder, don't create any folders, so the folder structure looks like common/shaders.

Make sure you are using the DoF timecyc.dat, now when in-game, look down a long road or similar and press the P key and the distance should blur only. Press the P key again if it switches it off.

Yes. Goto the visualSettings.dat, scroll down to the last section

# Misc Values

Now edit the following values to how you want it to look.




Obviously you want midblur for nearer blur, so just mess with those values until you get what you want. You could try 2.00 for both var and mid blur, this should blur it enough to look ok. Just remember this is no substitute for those ENB Bokeh DoF mods.

Here is a tip for DoF. The stock DoF is poor quality, just a simple blur. The Bokeh DoF that comes with a few ENB mods has some nice blurred shapes based on a camera's aperture blades which can make distant lights look good. Stock DoF just blurs those lights.

Here is a bad crude attempt at stock DoF with blurred shapes. Try it on a night time such as Midnight.

Using the DoF timecyc, right-click the timecyc.dat and untick the "Read Only" flag.

Now open the timecyc with a good text editor such as Notepad++.

Choose a weather and time, for example Sunny Midnight, scroll to the end of that line and from the last value(1.000) counting from right to left goto the 10th value from the end. This value should also be 1.000, now change it to 1.500, and save it. Go in-game, select that weather and time, and voila! Crap cheap shaped DoF.

rastakilla, Welcome to stock crap low-res car reflections. Only ENB can give you what you want. Pretty sure Boris said something like the cube maps were 256x256 (?)

Great job man, always liked these. So for the cheap shaped DOF, do you recommend doing this? I'm not sure I understand what it's changing.

Another question, RealityIV gives IV/EFLC the closest look of ENB effects with just default file edits - so what exactly is Reality IV ENB's goal for visuals, and is there going to be another update to it? This update came out of nowhere, haha.

cp1dell, It's best to try it on one single time and weather then see what it does. In the end, it's just a silly hack that if pushed too far, or even reversed (-1.000) produces a even sillier Toon-like shader effect with the DoF.

As for the ENB version of this mod, well, I doubt it will happen now due to lack of time. With this current mod, unlike ENB, the results of modding are instant, and exactly how I want them. With ENB, the timecyc, ENB ini, enbeffect, enbbloom, extra shaders, etc.. all affect the look of the mod but not always deliver the results I want. Also, ENB bugs such as the ever on-going 8pm-6am bug that prevents proper sunsets means no ENB will ever be completely finished.

@Bid96, he could be talking about the metallic paintwork, and you're right about the vehshare tweak. But he maybe talking about the low-res blocky car environment reflections, which are part of the stock game unfortunately.

I never noticed any sunset problems, but i hate it took R. all they way to 6th patch to notice they don't have shadows under cars from 8pm-6am. I just just have so much work in 1040 based game and i hate those shadows missing

I love this mod and the effects it does. Especially when it's raining. Is there any other mods (Graphical-Wise) that you use/ recommend to go along with this? I'm using Nikko's roads and HD paths mod atm. I know there are texture packs or even other editions (Not ENB) but i'm never sure which and i don't like mucking about, the game is unstable as it is.

A related question night time at ground level and that of the skybox seem to be entirely different. The roads and areas are nice and dark while the sky looks washed, bright and a complete contrast.

tall70, ENB has a bug, from the very first ENB, whereby timecyc azimuth settings are ignored from 8pm to 6am on any patch, so no nice sunsets for any ENB for those times.

Yeah, what the * is up with that? I've seen games that use AA, AO, DOF by default (all the things ENB does) run great, performance-wise. But introduce ENB to a game to inject those effects, and you take a big performance hit.

The performance hit you see with most ENB sets is down to settings set way too high without adding much to the visuals. Settings such as the scale settings of SSAO in the ENB ini, and often the DoF has crazy "Quality" settings which again doesn't really add much over performance settings.

My own ENB set runs almost as good as this non-ENB set, on my I5 @4.5ghz and a 2Gb GTX 660 my ENB set often runs at a solid 60fps.


Yeah, I believe it's hard coded. I have looked for ways to change them but like Boris said they're 256x256 fixed.


Post any bugs you might see, or suggestions, things you didn't like, etc... and I will see what I can do for the next v2.1.

Things that didn't make it in this release are :-

Extra Sunny sunset is a bit dark and orange, and the sun needs to be slightly brighter to hide the "circle" effect of the stock sun.

Cloudy at 8pm, the environment (to me anyway) looked a bit bright for the time of day, thinking of making it darker.

Rain, thinking of adding a mental rain for higher-end PCs. This should make the rain really hammer it down but cost a bit of performance, so it would be a add-on.

I have the Snow Mod v2 installed and all weathers are to bright with this mod but when I put the brightness all the way down, sees an extra sunny good but sunny and sunny windy not :/

Open the timecyc.dat in your text editor, don't forget to change the read-only flag of the file.

Now goto the "SUNNY_WINDY //Midnight" line and scroll along the line until you get to the value "-20.00", the value before it should be "4.00", change this to something like "2.00", or "1.00" for a really dark sky, save it then try it out. I personally don't like really dark skies at night in some weathers, but appreciate other opinions.


I don't support other gfx mods because I never intended this mod to work with them. RealityIV would have to have a complete overhaul to work properly with the Snow Mod v2, and I don't have the time to do that.

I'll have to try it out. You're processor's better than mine, but ENB is mostly offloaded onto the GPU so it shouldn't cause any major slowdowns. Thanks again man!

Patch 3. But the Patch version shouldn't matter with a timecyc mod. I tested this on Patch 7 and it looked the same, and even ran a bit better.

I suggest to put EFLC folder too since newbies just copy/paste the default folders for IV and don't put the timecyc in TBoGT and TLAD as they should, also people usually don't read the readme files either XD

Yes. Just need some free time. I may release them in packs of 3, since there are 12 img files I might pack them in 3 packs of 4.

I'm not really into social media, so I don't bother with Facebook or Twitter. Google+ was forced on me because of Youtube, so I may put some progress news on there.

Excellent. Just try not to add any more processing on top of RealityIV, such as HDR, or bloom, because it will only give problems such as over-brightness. SMAA is fine, as is FXAA.

Definitely not, no. A good ENB requires a fine-tuned timecyc.dat to work with the ENB ini and enbeffect. This would just cause too many headaches. You would have to do the complete reverse and fine-tune ENB rather than the timecyc. Your welcome to try, but your on your own ;-)

Anyway, something I forgot to mention in the description was info regarding INTERIORS. These are ok as they are but it would be nice to fine-tune the timecyclemodifiers for custom settings per interior/portal.

I want the hard DoF close like 50 or 100 meters, is that possible ? Because when I change "Unknow 48", everything is blurry aslo at 0 meters ... So how can I do it ?

You need to stop thinking like this is ENB, it isn't. You cannot do the things you can do with a DoF-enabled ENB set.

Your best way to do something similar is to go back to completely STOCK shaders, there are stock versions for each patch in my download, and then patch them with the universal shader patcher.

I have uploaded it here :-

This is not mine, so I suggest you read the included readme. Chances are, you would go for the "Smart, heuristic, Near" version which would patch the shaders for middle and far blur only. You cannot do this via the timecyc.dat.

Please do not keep asking questions about your mod, or going off-topic.

Absolutely awesome. I was using VisualIV 1.7.8 before this, but got tired of the uber fog, and in certain weather at dusk the sky turned orange with pitch-black clouds, which looked terrible. This, however, is amazing.

transparent glasses issues are down to PATCHED SHADERS in the db directory. Goto your shaders folder and delete the db folder, now get a STOCK db folder, from the correct patch version you are using, and copy it to your shaders folder.

The next version will do away with a custom db folder, & revert to stock.

As usual, awesome timecyc DKT70 10/10, but I have a question: is it normal that the contrast bar in the options doesn't work after installing your mod? because sometimes at night it's very dark although I put the options like the screenshot you provided, and btw can you make a more FPS timecyc version just like the one in visualIV mod (you know, reducing far.clip, etc...)? thanks.

I use a sort of trick in the timecyc to get high contrast and sometimes, depending on the patch, contrast might not do anything.

Dark nights are dark because I like dark nights, but they shouldn't be really dark, perhaps take a screenshot with the weather and time you used and I will see if it matches mine.

As far as more FPS, you shouldn't really need this unless you struggle with the stock game or have ageing hardware. Farclip tweaks can help, as does the rain drops in the visualsettings, less drops = more fps for rainy weathers. Bloom can slightly affect fps but I am not using any bloom in this mod.

You can do the farclip tweaks yourself by using a text editor on the timecyc.dat, just search for values such as 2500,2600,2700,2800, etc.. as high as 3200 I believe. If you change them all to a fixed farclip such as 1500 or 2000 depending on the fps/visual loss you want, save and test.

If I get time I will include a fps version in the next version of this mod, v2.1.

Yes, me and a lot of people with old pc's would be grateful if you make a low end timecyc :), compared to VisualIV's more FPS timecyc, I lose 10 fps when I use your timecyc, that's a lot for me as I average 30 fps on 720p medium. BTW here is a night-time screenshot around 12am:

Ok, it worked fine the first time I started it, but now it freezes just before getting into the game at "Loading-*Mission name*". When I remove it, the game works fine. Any help?

Omar_DmX, Like I said, I will try a fps version, but cannot promise it will really help. I don't like too many compromises when it comes to quality. And that night pic looks fine, it's 12am so it's going to be dark.

@cp1dell, edit them how you want. I just go with basic standard colours so I don't favour a specific colour.

@ZXC 2.0, When you remove what ? The whole mod ? Just go with process of elimination. Start with the timecyc.dat first, then the timecyclemodifiers, then the visualsettings.dat.

There is no way this mod could crash gtaiv, there is not anything special going on that would crash it.

Any way to re-enable the Black and White Death/Busted effect? I've tried editing the Desaturation, DesaturationFar, ColourAdd, ColourCorrect etc. but no changes.

Copying and pasting the default values for the whole line for death, death2, death3, and busted results in the whole screen being washed out for some reason.

So any clue which values should be edited to get the B&W effect back?

Having a few personal issues at the moment so cannot really do much modding, or help.


Those settings are in one of the timecyclemodifiers, not at my PC at the moment so cannot tell you which one, but just look for the lines that describe the effects and copy the STOCK timecyclemodifier over the top of mine and test that.

If that doesn't work then it's down to some tricks I do in the timecyc.dat to limit contrast and other color options.

I cannot help you at the moment. I am very near a major house move and won't be able to do anything online for at least a few more weeks. I will only have mobile internet (3g)for sometime. If you can wait until then, I will then help you + be back online myself.

I will also be resuming RealityIV ENB 2.0, which will be unlike any other ENB release out there. Totally original, made from scratch, and for Patch 7/EFLC.

RealityIV 2.0 ENB is around 35% complete, maybe a bit more. It's doing a few things no other ENB has done yet and the proof will be in the skies. I have shown what can be done without ENB, with this stock mod, & I will hopefully show what can be done with ENB.

That street is just next to the main centre park, on the left of the park, and using custom textures.

I plan to release an ENB mod (I already have a few names that would look good in it), but I need help to make a timecyle for him. Actually I have several cool ideas for the timecycle(s), but I do not want to reveal here, even it is not so interesting for you.

To save time I will use a timecycle from another ENB mod as the basis for my timecycle. But if you have time to help me I appreciate it :)

I think the file "gtxd.img" from my HD texture pack can reach 300 MB. Most textures are very detailed, and the resolution of roads texture are 1024px instead of 768px. Do you think an exaggeration?

300Mb for just the gtxd.img is excessive, you should really be looking to make this as small as you can while keeping the highest quality you can. For me, 768x768 is the best trade-off for quality vs size.

The higher the resolution you go the higher the size, and the higher the chance that most users will get extreme texture pop-in problems.

Anyway, this is the last time I can help you until my move, my main PC is now in storage and I have to use my Laptop to type this.

Currently the file size is 149MB, outside the DDS image files that have not yet been made​​. Still missing Jersey & Manhattan roads textures. I hope he does not get to 200MB :)

As long as you can run the stock game then you can run this.

Lag can be caused by a slow HD, so playing off of a SSD will help.

As long as you keep your resolution low as you can put up with, I know your Laptop will have a native resolution of something like 1366x768, keep the draw distances down in the gfx options, and try to keep other gfx options not too high.

I might release the next v2.1 with a lower-end version included. It won't do wonders, there isn't a great deal you can do with a stock mod.

Look for a texture called something like "nj01_ivybush"

I will need my main PC to be exact, so the jersey location is a rough guess.

Hi! I like this mod on my reinstalled GTA IV.

I would try to avoid using ENB because its always too bright or dark and nothing fixes it...

So, I would like to know if I can edit the car-light's "textures" which is a dull red point for me now...

Anyway, would be nice if you upload your modded MAP textures.

If you mean the lights from the cars are dull then you will find the settings in the visualsettings.dat file. I prefer them dull much like in real life rear car lights rarely "project" themselves brightly on roads, only newer led lights slightly do this. So edit to your own tastes. I can't help much at the moment due to only having mobile internet.

So, I'm tweaking the visualsettings.dat, but the values doesn't seem to have effect at all. Since its clear enough what does what I won't copypaste it. Half-solved by changing the corona texture, but can't edit DSS, plugins not working for PSCS3.

I don't know how real life visuals looks like at you, but its different. On car taillights (brakelights), I prefer a very minimal corona by basic and a slightly when braking - for a Lamborghini I would like to see those beautiful LEDs anyway :)

So, any advice?

Anyway, I've added a simple ENB for reflections, modded many textures, and now I have an awesome GTA IV! All needs left is better MAP textures, hope you share the links/pack your own.

RoyalPredator, you could try the visualsettings.dat from a ELS ENB mod, or even the stock visualsettings.dat & see if that helps. Like I said, I'm not a fan of those ENB mods where the rear car lights are huge "SPLATS" of red lights on the roads, so I tone-down my lights.

I will look again at the car lights when I get my main PC up & running.

I initially thought you meant the coronas were too weak, not too strong.

Is there a weather & time this happens ?

Corona adjustment is done in the timecyc.dat, but I can't say where because I'm on my mobile phone at the moment.

Perhaps post a pic showing what you get ?

And, if you're using custom coronas then post a link so I can test them myself.

I've meant it was and is too strong for my taste.

Used Basic ones, now I'm using custom which looks better but it is still STRONG. ENB Has no effect on it too. No need to test it, the vanilla was same strong. You may use something else which isn't uploaded here? I would be able to fix it but as said, can't edit DSS to manualy edit the texture darker.

For pic: Now I'm using Coronas Pack v1.0 (from here)

It's the offical pic of front lights, but imagine a strong red variation on the back...

My goal would be to make it slightly noticeable, and when braking; letting the taillight texture to bloom and just a little corona strenght applied.

Made some progress! Figured out the effects of visualSettings.dat


# Light values adjust the LIGHT-MAPS ONLY, not the car itself!

# Other emissive lights

car.defaultlight.emissive.on - Headlight's TEXTURE light power - Unused car's light power, WTF for?!

car.brakelight.emissive.on - Brakelight's. May differ from tail light. - WTF?!

car.middlebrakelight.emissive.on - Middle brakelight... - WTF?!

car.reversinglight.emissive.on - Reverse (white on back)... - WTF?!

car.extralight.emissive.on - Fog-lamp!...


So the Corona texture's Power should be in the timecyc.dat, but I only see sunCorona there. You may know which one it is DKT70.

In FOG weather, it totaly looks like an X-WING's SPACE-Engine...

Meanwhile the front is perfect now, only the REAR (RED) coronas should be adjusted to ~half.

Otherwise, to see the carlight's textrure when lit, need to edit the texture file for more contrast. For example, my Aventador's tail lights shouldn't be full-tinted RED, meanwhile other cars are okay.

It's just a texture error.

No, please don't. This mod is still having fixes & work done on it. Also, if you are thinking about using the timecyc.dat with ENB then don't, it's not meant to be used with any extra post processing from ENB or sweetFX.

You're better off learning & making your own timecyc.

So its still WIP? It looks very nice for me. My advices/suggestions;

* Start the darkening a hour before.

* Let the cars use their lamps all day, as intended IRL.

* Make the Lightning a bit more heavy

* Less colorful cloudy/sunny-windy

And Upload your new MAP textures for this ;)

I appreciate the suggestions but I will be sticking to my goal for this mod.

1 hour earlier ? Why ? It's fine as it is. And the work involved in redoing all the weathers & times is too much.

Car lights work fine for me with stock cars & light occluders.

As for the rest, I'll look at those maybe.

The map textures won't be uploaded for now.

One of the things I gave up to live in a better area was my internet, I only have my 3g mobile connection for now.

@alwy93, for EFLC users you need to copy the timecyc in TBOGT/pc/data/ and TLAD/pc/data/ folders to make it work (and the visualsettings to TBOGT/common/data/). Thanks to mathleopoldo for this.

@DKT, great config/mod. I'm using this time in EFLC. Is practically perfect result and even better than many ENB (which apparently no longer works in EFLC ENB). Their screens are better than my game ... Basically, the AA. What do you use there?

jaisesa, yes there is some progress but it's very slow for the moment, my move put back all modding by a month at least. I also only have mobile 3g internet, for now, so until I get tethering enabled then I cannot show any progress via Youtube. The next release from myself will just be a bug-fix-tweak release of this mod.

I don't "play" the game anymore, I simply free-play the game with a trainer to test all weathers. The cut-scene settings are in the timecyclemodifiers and cannot be real-time edited in EFLC, only patch 3/4 can do this, so I can only test in those patches for now.

I will test this a bit later and post my results.

Cp1dell, ENB version is progressing a bit slow. I am currently testing this mod with ENB's car & trees only, nothing else, & so far there doesn't see to be any fps hit.

Shandby, this is NOT for ENB, or anything to do with it.

Mrz999, there is no way to do separate car reflections, the settings in a timecyc mod affects ALL surfaces so too high a setting and roads can look too shiny. Here is a tip to keep this mod's look + ENB car reflections. Download ENB STOCK version from Boris' site, delete enbeffect.fx, enbclouds.fx, enbbloom.fx. Now you will have access to the ENB INI only so play around with the car reflections.

DKT70, Continue the work with shaders of this (To make car glasses look nice bright ~as iCEN's), etc, I have an ENB that uses this timecyc - Stock from Boris modified, just have to make some things actualy work, like Bloom, [CARWINDOWGLASS], AA, minimal Godrays & screen effect.

RoyalPredator, this mod is NOT meant to be used with ENB, this is why you get bugs. I use tricks to get the nice lighting for each weather, such as purposely mis-use adaptation to get bright light, but without the drawbacks from mid-grey/contrast which can cause texture whiteouts. Make sure your shaders are completely stock, they can sometimes cause glass problems.

Oh and the mods can f-off. You warn ME, yet you leave comments from trolls like vc2846 who just registered to * at me. You support thieves who steal my work, and support trolls who * at real modders who keep this site going. When V is released and moddable this site will die, good riddance.

i get a lot better fps with this, rather than enb for low pc's..

also look great with custom created (super shiny) cars that would look like super chrome with most enb..

- DKT70 HD street textures

- Custom anti aliasing with AMD Catalyst (2x MSAA with Morphological filtering on)

- Maxing out the "Saturation" in display settings (THIS IS IMPORTANT)

Possible, through VisualSettings in common/data. There are several kinds of motion blur, mostly on-foot, in-vehicle, and weapon aim. However, this requires a series of trial-and-errors to find yourself a satisfying result.


Shouldn't be much of a performance hogger. I believe it even improves the overall performance as well.
