Car wrecks hurt! Put on a seatbelt to reduce damage and prevent flying through the windshield.

- Minor wrecks don't hurt you.
- Normal wrecks hurt you based on car damage.
- Big wrecks hurt you based on car damage x1.5 and can trigger the drunk cam effect.
- Crashing upside down or sideways hurts you based on car damage x3.
- Press Left Alt to put on your seatbelt.


This is a script for HazardX's .NET scripthook. Just place and DeadlyWrecks.ini into the 'scripts' folder of the scripthook.


- Only you take damage from this mod, not NPCs.
- See the DeadlyWrecks.ini file for various settings.
- The default settings assume that you have a car damage realism mod like Realistic Driving by Killatomate.
- You can type "reloadini" in the console to load new settings while the game is running.
- When you wear your seatbelt, damage is reduced by a configurable amount. There's also a max amount of damage per collision (but you can still die if a wreck involves multiple collisions).
- There are settings (off by default) for more seatbelt realism: hold the seatbelt key to put it on/take it off, and make it prevent you from getting out of the car.

You could probably make a mod like that Bleed and Heal, with slowly subtly regenerating health when you've got like 75% health or more, and when you're blinking RED health you use the injured walking animation (clutching stomach in pain and limping away) you bleed out and lose health over time until you get a med kit, paramedic's healing, jump in an ambulance, eat, drink, call up Carmen the nurse * (although that never worked for me even without mods so i dunno about that).

Gonna try this mod out right now though.

That mod is pretty cool, but I don't use it myself and don't have anything interesting to add, so I'm not really interested in remaking it.

I was just saying because with that mod the only way you can heal when you're in the red zone is with medkits or ambulance - phones and food vendors/soda machines/etc. are bugged. No worries though

being given that GTA 4 is based on the years 2006/2008, you can create the airbag mod, or added in your mod the airbag.

if you add a collision file/data to your air bag when creating the model we see in game, upon impact niko will automatically slam into it and back into his seat like you would expect, the only thing that would make it difficult i think, would be creating the dummy file to trigger it, but im sure you could make a EPM line for this part ????????????????? :-P

infact... i know you can definately do this!! SOMEBODY SHOULD!!!

Very good mod! It really gives me a feel of realism. Now I can make serious car accidents without flying through the whole city... 10/10 great job

Nice mod, but it's very dangerous to be passenger in taxi. 3/4 of rides had resulted in death for me, even by fast traveling.

Can i ask would it be possible to add the drunk cam effect after having a bad crash so it gives the effect of a head injury? Just an idea let me know what you think everyone would it be something you would want to happen?

Great idea — just uploaded a new version with that feature. The chance of it happening, the shake amount, and the duration are customizable in the INI, and they scale with the amount of damage taken.

Really nice, haven't tested it yet but I'll do it right away...I want to make custom collisions for cars and tweak them in a real way, I mean a supercars like Lamborghini, Bugatti, Ferrari, Mclaren take much less deformation damage as its made by the current realistic handings, and old cars(even big vans) take much more damage than the new cars, check for crash testing results on normal cars(notice that the hit the car to the hardest material possible, in a same collision with common materials cause less wreck).thanks.10/10

Love this mod, but it's glitchy with the Iron Man mod. When you take off to fly, you take instant damage. Just a bug report. Perhaps we may see a fix in the future?

Hm, I just found an issue having this mod in combination with another mod, namely the Time Travel mod. (Although, I'm not sure if the thing that's causing it lies within the "Back To The GTA"-mod.)

I have already posted this on the page for the "Back To The GTA"-mod, but I'll just explain it here in case there's nothing they can/will do about it.

What happens is, with that mod, you supposedly blast into a time-portal and then disappear for a moment (basically being invisible while having come to a sudden stop) then you have explosion-effects again and you suddenly appear again while moving at the speed you were at before. You probably know this. But what happens a moment or two later, say after 10 seconds, the player suddenly takes about 95% damage. So when you time-travel once more, you basically die.

I'm guessing there's sóme kind of collision happening, at sóme point, which the Dealy Wrecks mod detects as an impact to the vehicle you're using. I'm not sure if it's the sudden stop, the sudden speed-up perhaps, or some kind of other event that's happening during the time-travel trickery. But I do know the damage only occurs with Deadly Wrecks running.

Could you (if you can be bothered) check this out and perhaps find a way to let Deadly Wrecks not do this? It's not a massive problem, because I don't intend to constantly time-travel. But whenever you do use it, it nearly kills you. Which, like I already pointed out on the other page, is kind of "realistic" in a way, or would act as a gameplay-balancer. As in, you time-travel to perhaps get away in a pursuit, but it takes some of your health. So if you could even get it as far to control the amount of damage you take, only with the time-travel specifically, it would almost be like an added feature. It will probably already be lowered if you lower the values in your mod, though. But of course, then the regular traffic-impacts might not be enough.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know and throw in some ideas as well. :)

I'm not sure why, but that mod (the file specifically) sets the car's health to 0 temporarily, then restores it to full health.

If the creator of BTTGTA doesn't change this, the good news is you can just use the Time Travel v0.4 mod that BTTGTA adds to (the file). You'll lose BTTGTA's additional features, but you'll still have the core time travel ability.

OK, I understand. Maybe it has to do with the fact that it has to "disappear" for a moment? Just guessing.

But I'll just notify them of that, cause I do think it makes a nice package (the TimeTravel with BTTGTA). Thanks for looking into it. :)

Oh, by the way; Have you tried altering that file? Like removing that the vehicle goes to "0 health" or perhaps changing the value? Or is that not at all possible? Just wondering... Cause if that's possible, and the creator of the mod will not or can not change it, it might eventually have to be a thing for us "Deadly Wrecks"-users to just change that manually if we want to use the two mods at the same time.

The Time Travel mod makes the car disappear without changing its health, so I really don't know why BTTGTA does it. Maybe there's a good reason though.

Altering BTTGTA would be a bit complicated — you'd have to decompile it with a program like ILSpy, modify the code, then re-compile it. I've never tried that before, so it might not actually work. For now I recommend using Time Travel by itself, and waiting for a new version of BTTGTA.

Yes, I've left the whole Trime Travel thing off for me personally. It doesn't do that much for the game anyway.

But I have a small idea for Deadly Wrecks:

What about, when you wear your seatbelt, you can't get out of the car? Until, of course, you press the button to de-activate it. I don't know if this would only be an annoyance, but it might kind of add to the "realism" or "depth" and the risk of course. It could perhaps be optional anyway, if it's possible to write it that way.

Another thing that might be nice is an animation for "putting on the seatbelt". Just like you would see your character "use the radio". But I don't know if there's any animation already in the game to use for that, or if it's even possible to add a new animation.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions! Good news and bad news.

Bad news: I couldn't find a suitable animation for putting on/taking off the seatbelt.

Good news: New version is up! Added Seatbelt_PreventExit INI option with a TON of help from LMS. Tried several things that didn't work and pretty much gave up on this, but LMS baby-stepped me through a more advanced solution. Note that it only works on GTA4 versions,, and

Side note: Also now when you fly through the windshield, you'll usually die. Buckle up for safety! (Or change the EjectionDamage setting.)

There is a small incompatibility which I think would be an easy fix, not sure though. I recently installed a plane mod, only to find that when I get into a plane, my health drains away. It turned out to be deadly wrecks which seems to think that planes are constantly colliding. The only way I have been able to get the two kind of working is to change the vehicles.ide to make the game see the plane as a bike. Could it be fixed with a simple patch that stops deadly wrecks acting with planes, like it does with bikes??

This mod doesn't actually detect collisions, it detects changes in the health of your vehicle's chassis and engine. So your plane's health must be dropping for some reason.

Also the mod doesn't actually ignore bikes, it just won't let you use the seatbelt on a bike (so I'm not sure why your vehicles.ide workaround works). And I can't add special code for planes because vanilla GTA4 doesn't have planes. Is your workaround insufficient?

Oh, I only just noticed there had been an update to this. Hah, fantastic that you've found a way to add the seatbelt-thing. XD

I had a bit of a break cause my GTA broke, so I'm sorting out whatever I had modified and want to restore again, because I have to reinstall. :(

Anyway, good work again. Always nice to play around with new features.

Another small idea for the seatbelt-feature;

How about incorporating a "click"-sound for when the seatbelt is fastened? There are reload-sounds that kind of sound like clicking of seatbelts, such as a clip going into a rifle. Maybe that could be used if possible.

Why this would be handy, at least in my experience, is to be sure you have your seatbelt on without having to stare at the HUD-icon when you'd be in a chase or something, especially when you have a delay on it. And it might just be a nice detail to have a sound anyway, since there's nothing else that really happens.

Maybe there could also be a warning-sound for when you attempt to get out of a vehicle when you still have the seatbelt on. Perhaps the "ping"-sound of the navigation-system could be used. :)

Hey man, I just noticed there are some bugs with this when using bikes phoned from Clay in TLaD, haven't tried yet with phoned cars in TBoGT. In TLaD, you drive for a few moments using Clay's bike then you die all of a sudden even there was no collision anywhere. Also happens frequently when starting gang wars.

Hope you have a fix for this.

I have tried it also with Henrique's cars in TBoGT, same bug in TLaD: Minor damage even with seatbelt but decreases life to 20% all of a sudden.

I dont understand how it works but first of all I don't use any car damage mod ATM so I raised ChassisSensitivity and

EngineSensitivity to suit my received damage need also I changed button for SB and drunk cam chance to 300 to have more often drunk cam effect after hitting objects. But I have a problem because at first I receive damage with SB on but after a while I dont receive damage anymore even if I ram stuff at top speed. That is weird. I use "bleed heal" mod so I don't know maybe that mod conflicts somehow with this.
