Engine Blow-Out

by ArpyClarkson
Please explain why you're reporting this file:

Engine Blow-Out v1.0

This script adds a touch of realism to GTA, making your bad driving a bad idea. Engine Blow-Out adds the downfall of your car when you push it too fast and too hard. This mod is fully customizable- allowing you to choose how much abuse your cars can take.

Tested and developed for GTA 4
Reportedly working on old versions and 1.0.1

Based on a reconstructed and indepth version of Nevitro's Destroy Engine v2

More information in the ReadMe included.

just what we are missing in the game :D

Great script, and it's working fine on old version as well, V1.0.1

an idea:

if you can add a temperature gauge or digital one on screen to avoid overheating, because as you said in the readme if the engine start to smoke it's too late right? so how do i know if the car is overheated or not yet, like if I want to push it hard but just before its blow out i can stop and cool it down.

thanks for great script 10/10

Thanks for the feedback :D i'll see what I can do as far as a means of a heat gauge- might take a day or two though. Also want to try and implement cooling via air intake (i.e. the faster you go, the more air passes through the engine, thus the cooler your engines gets- unless your making more heat than your removing) I'll keep you guys updated~

I'll look into what I can do as far as sounds and effects- maybe i'll be able to utilize the engine pop that beater cars make with all that brown smoke :o gonna get some gui stuff in first though~

Is it possible to add soundfiles (.wav) to this script (or other scripts)? Example, if engine blows, then script plays (random) soundfile on your harddisk?
Posted on October 18, 2012 11:40PM by totu
I can script it so that when an engine blows it will play a certain sound from the game- issue is I do not know the name of these sound files. However, custom sounds or sounds not from the game may be able to play- theoretically, I see no reason they wouldn't.

If I can get custom sounds working- I could have actual engine blow-out noises (whatever those would be), as well as beeping if the engine is overheating :D

May I suggest adding a feature that kills the engine based on how much damage is done to the car? Maybe even specific to damage in the front section.

I'm not too sold that the engine should die when driving the car too hard (maybe after 1000 hours lol), but lowering the amount of damage needed for the car to stall would be realistic IMO.

If you want your car to take more engine damage you can edit the handling.dat file in you GTA4 root\common\data- The section marked 'De' under 'damage' is the engine damage multiple. You can also change the other damage values; I read somewhere that a value of 4.0 is "more realistic".

Alright thanks for the help, will test it out!

bad * mod 10/10 at can you make it where the cars burn longer when on fire thats more realistic to
Posted on October 20, 2012 12:54AM by LIVE_HOUSTONBOI
I'll see what I can do to lengthen the burn time for engines (probably just a ghetto fix, but it should work)

Also, should have an nice big update within the next couple days- haven't gotten into coding the new formulas/features/graphics; so things may take longer than I hope, and that's usually how things go.

But here is what i am planning to add: RPM gauge, Temperature gauge (with overheating light), RPM limiter and Engine turn off buttons (hopefully Xbox controller compatibility), new overheating formulas, factoring air flow into engine cooling, engine recovery (white smoke, steam, is recoverable; black smoke is permanent damage), random engine behavior when damaged (cutouts, fires, or explosions- assuming i can get random values working)... and yeah- turning into more than just a simple engine blow-out script <3

sounds cool, really looking foward to that update :o)

so far it works with 360 controller a treat, dont change lol :o)

Really good work though :o)
Posted on October 20, 2012 5:23AM by powler
So i've gotten most of the update done- RPM/Temperature Gauge (with overheating light) is in and working, RPM Limiter and Engine Turn off have been taken out because RPM Limiter isn't possible/engine doesn't stay off, new overheating formulas suck at best- but they are kind of better, air flow cooling is overpowered, engine recovery is not working, random engine behavior is not being added- but random values do work, and I also tried to make engines burn longer but could only get it to work for whatever vehicle you're in.

I'll get the engine overheating working the best I can before I release it. (not as good of an update as I hoped for :P)
