Lap Timer mod

About mod:
The name pretty much says it all.

How to use it:
Press RCTRL + S to toggle stopwatch.
Press NUMPAD8 to increase the number of laps.
Press NUMPAD4 to decrease the number of laps.
Press ENTER to select the number of laps.
Press the period button to start the race/go to next lap
Press comma + period together (press comma first) to reset all laps.

What you can change in the ini file:
Position of where the text goes.
Position of where the background goes.
Size of the backgroud.
Color of the text.
Color of the background.
Whether to show the background or not.
The keys.

Also:
The ini file is created the first time the script is ran.
To change the colors you will need to get the ARGB integer for that color. Use the program 'ColorFinder.exe' in the zip file to help with that.
The maximum amount of laps is 5, at the moment.

as a gimmick i guess this is ok.. other than that i think it is useless.

5 for effort

10 for accepting a request

-8 even as someone uses GTA IV just to drive or drift, i just don't see the point of it.

hehe sorry man, the request was me... i use it to for timed laps of certain circuits, lap timers, help me improve handling data to make my mods as realistic as possible in the rage engine (although its arcade i think good data can be achieved) so i asked for it making :)

@LetsPlay did DmanDuck get in contact with you about a script idea?

Hey, I just found your stopwatch-mod and this mod by looking for... well, some sort of stopwatch/counter for GTAIV.

But I was thinking; Maybe you could make it so that you could set the stopwatch to stop at a specific time. And then also implement a digital speedometer which records a top speed or maybe even an average.

Then you could make it record/freeze the speedometer at the time you set the stopwatch to stop. This way you could see what speed you reached at like 5 or 10 seconds or whatever amount of time.

It could also work the other way around of course. That you set a speed at which the stopwatch should stop. This way you can for example set 50km/h or 100km/h or whatever else, and the timer/stopwatch would record/freeze at that point so you'd know how long it took you (or the car) to get to that speed.

You could perhaps even get an optional on-screen log of records.

That's actually what I'm trying to do, because I'm tweaking cars to go at somewhat realistic speeds. And this could be handy for anyone who wants to configure cars in a specific way.

If you like the idea, maybe you could expand upon your mods.

At the very least you could make it so that you can set specific times (not even with a speedometer implemented), perhaps even add in beepy sounds if it doesn't already have that. :P

Oh, and on an additional note; If it's possible, maybe it would be cool if you'd change the font (or at least the numbers) to a "digital display" style. (Look at the font named DS-Digital on the dafont-website for example.)

All of those ideas could be possible, but which one would you prefer? Then I know which one to work on when I get some time lol

Well, let me think about that. But in the mean while, let me just ask what do you think would be most useful? As in making it more useful for more people maybe.

It also makes me think that maybe you could implement one thing, and make it work both ways by means of the user manually switching some options. Unless that makes the script or code just twice as long or whatever.

Yea, I know. It's more for the people who need/like to do the custom handling-lines. Like myself. I don't do car-models, but the ones I install I like to give a more believable speed and such.

I've spent a lot of time driving up and down the landing-strips with many different car-models, but I soon found out that for faster and even medium speed cars there wasn't even enough straight and flat ground in a straight line to even go at top speed for long enough, even when accelerating quickly with a boost-feature in a trainer.

Anyway, if you can't do both, like maybe it's too problematic or anything, I think for me it would be best so that you can set a speed at which the time should stop or be frozen. That way you can of course measure 0 to 100 speeds and such.

But it would be handy to have the other away around as a double check, so you can be more sure of the speed at that time-record (or the one you're aiming for).

I think it would make a very nice mod if you'd really flesh it out for multiple uses. As far as I know it's pretty much the only timer/stopwatch-type mod. :)

I created the script so it stops at the set speed. I may do the stop at a set time soon.
